COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

FUNDAMENTALS OF INTERIOR DESIGN

The Fundamentals of Interior Design Certification program provides students with the knowledge necessary to work as an independent Interior Designer or work within the Interior Design industry. Students learn about elements and principles of design, furniture history, floor planning, elevations, design styles, sustainable design, custom furnishings, selecting fabrics and materials, color schemes, window coverings, artwork, and more! They also learn about professional practices including business formations, communication styles and how to develop a business and marketing plan that will allow them to succeed in the field of Interior Design. The course ends with a client project and final exam.

AUTOCAD

This 6-week AutoCAD course orients the student to the fundamentals and use of AutoCAD in the field of Interior Design. By the completion of the course, students should have a working knowledge of creating floor plans, elevations, lighting plans, electrical plans, furniture plans, and sheet layouts in AutoCAD. This class is strongly recommended for any Interior Design career.

SKETCHUP

This 7-week course teaches the basics of 3D modeling, tailored specifically for Kitchen & Bath Design. Students will learn both beginner and advanced techniques tailored to aid in the designing and presentation of design projects.

KITCHEN & BATH DESIGN

This 6-week Introduction to Kitchen & Bath Design course gives students an overview of the elements of kitchen and bath design through a combination of lectures and hands on activities. The lessons will cover planning and layout, cabinets, fixtures, appliances, materials, lighting and more. At the completion of the course students will have the basic knowledge to guide a client through the process of remodeling a kitchen or bathroom.

PHOTOSHOP, ILLUSTRATOR & INDESIGN

This 6-week course will provide students with basic Photoshop and Illustrator skills that can be used to create professional visual presentations. Students will learn how to modify and transform images by changing the color, lighting, and size of photos that can be used to build their portfolio.

BUSINESS & ENTREPRENEURSHIP FUNDAMENTALS

In this 6-week course, students will create a strategic plan that is based on their unique capabilities and helps them to define and measure their goals culminating in the development and presentation of a business plan for their first year of business.

INTRO TO COMMERCIAL DESIGN

This dynamic ten-week course examines the unique and diverse disciplines within the progressive field of Commercial Interior Design. Learn the fundamentals and elements essential to produce and manage a successful commercial project from initial client meeting to completion. Explore innovative hands-on methods, processes and skills to design engaging interior environments that enrich spaces functionally and aesthetically.  Immerse yourself in the conceptual exploration of spaces that support programmatic and functional requirements.  Identify, research and creatively analyze elements related to performance, specifications, functionality and quality of space.

FURNITURE DESIGN & FABRICATION

In this intensive 8-week course, students will build a chair, bench, stool, folding chair, or another piece of furniture that can be used for seating. Students will have the flexibility to be creative and experimental during the design phase. Students should expect to gain an understanding of the design and building process and will learn to use “prototype” language. Three skilled maker facilitators will be present and can accommodate up to 10 students total.

PATTERN PRINTING – NEW!

In this 5-session series you’ll learn all the basics of screenprinting, and then expand to large repeating patterns. No experience with screenprinting is necessary in order to be successful in this course, we start from the ground up. Image prep, screen prep, printing, and cleaning are all covered on day 1 and after that we apply those skills to repeating patterns: how to create a pattern using digital and analog methods and how to print that pattern onto a flat surface, designing your own textiles, wallpaper, wrapping paper, upholstery, tapestries, draperies, and much more.

REVIT

This 7-week course will cover the fundamentals of Revit in a format that promotes information retention. Students will obtain a fundamental understanding of Revit Architecture as it relates to Interior Design and the skills and technical knowledge required to model, draft, and render small projects.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Upon completion of the Masters Program courses, you will present a portfolio of your final projects from each course to the Executive Director. You will then receive the following:

  • Masters Certificate
  • Final Transcript
  • Masters of High Honors Award for a GPA of 3.5 or above
  • Letter of Recommendation from the Executive Director
  • Priority considerations for internship opportunities

Please note: The average class size for each course is 20-25 students, with the exception of AutoCAD & SketchUp, Advanced AutoCAD and Advanced SketchUp, which has a maximum of 15 students. When planning out your course schedule, please be mindful of how fast and intensive this program is. While you are in the Fundamentals of Interior Design program, it is recommended that you take no more than three supplemental courses in that same term. Plan on an average of 15+ hours of homework per week per class.
