In a captivating interview with Andrea Krajeski, a former corporate professional turned independent interior designer, we delve into her journey of transformation and passion for creative pursuits. With a background in business marketing and a successful career in purchasing for major companies, Andrea’s story is one of resilience, pursuing dreams, and making a positive impact on her community.
A Journey of Discovery:
Andrea’s path to interior design was a gradual realization that stemmed from her childhood fascination with remodeling and her love for interior aesthetics. Despite initially pursuing a career in the corporate world, she embarked on a personal journey by enrolling in the Saturday Fundamentals Program at Heritage and discovering her true passion for interior design.
Overcoming Hurdles:
Andrea’s decision to transition from the safety net of corporate life to entrepreneurship was not an easy one, given the lack of guaranteed healthcare and societal challenges. However, with financial stability and a supportive partner, she built the necessary foundations to pursue her dreams.
Empowered by Education At HSID:
The education and hands-on experience Andrea gained at HSID (Heritage School of Interior Design) were instrumental in providing her with the confidence and knowledge to start her own business. HSID’s tailored curriculum and supportive community allowed Andrea to focus on the specific skills she needed, reinforcing her decision to pursue interior design. Andrea shares,
The education and hands-on experience I got at HSID gave me the confidence and reassurance to start my own business. It was also nice to focus in on the curriculum I wanted to learn without having to “go back to college”. HSID is great at zeroing in on what you’re going to directly apply to your work. The pandemic hit shortly after I started at HSID, but I felt very supported the whole time. The biggest value is knowing there is a community of like-minded people I can reach out to at any point in my career.
Designing Dreams, One Project at a Time:
Currently, Andrea is an independent interior designer based in North Seattle, specializing in residential remodeling projects. Operating from a design studio in her home, she embraces a grassroots networking approach, connecting with clients in her neighborhood and surrounding areas. One unique marketing tactic she employs is showcasing miniature dioramas in a Little Library format, both outside her house and a friend’s house in another neighborhood.
Creating Opportunities for Others:
Driven by a desire to support fellow independent interior designers, Andrea is working on establishing a brick-and-mortar design studio called the Mood Board. This cooperative space will serve as a hub for designers to collaborate and thrive in their craft, fostering a sense of community and growth within the industry.
Leaving an Impression:
Andrea’s ultimate goal is to make a lasting impression on her community. Whether it’s through growing her independent business, the Mood Board, or exploring other creative avenues, she remains committed to evolving and leaving a positive impact.
Andrea Krajeski’s story is a testament to the power of pursuing one’s passions, embracing change, and making a difference. As an independent interior designer, she continues to inspire others with her resilience, creativity, and dedication to her craft.
