For Nicole Hopper, interior design has always been less of a career choice and more of a calling patiently unfolding over time.
A Washington native, Nicole was born in Seattle and now lives in Kirkland. Long before design became her profession, it was already shaping her perspective. As a child, she attended every Street of Dreams tour she could, instinctively drawn to how spaces told stories and evoked emotion. Even then, design felt familiar, almost innate.
Her professional journey began in luxury real estate styling, where she spent over fourteen years preparing premier residential and vacation homes for Sotheby’s International Realty. Working at the highest end of the market, Nicole styled properties that required precision, restraint, and a refined eye. She held a business license and was consistently booked, yet she lacked formal training, a website, and a structured way to communicate her design vision to clients.
At that stage of her career, Nicole executed designs but did not work directly with homeowners. While this provided invaluable exposure and confidence, she knew something was missing. She could see the full potential of a space, but she wanted the tools to articulate that vision clearly, professionally, and collaboratively. That desire led her to Heritage School of Interior Design, where she set out to bridge the gap between instinct and formal expertise.
At HSID, Nicole found one of her greatest professional accelerators: presentations. Presenting to classmates required her to articulate ideas clearly, receive feedback, and refine her communication skills in real time. It was rigorous, transformative, and deeply aligned with the realities of client-facing design work. In addition, showroom tours and vendor relationships built through the program became long-term assets that continue to support her business today.
Despite her experience and talent, Nicole faced a challenge familiar to many creatives: self-doubt. Learning to believe fully in her abilities required introspection, commitment, and growth. It was a personal journey of discovery, and in many ways, healing. Through dedication and hard work, she learned to operate from a place of confidence. Today, she approaches each project with certainty and excitement, finding deep fulfillment in watching her ideas come to life.
Now the Founder and Principal Designer of Nicole Hopper Interiors, Nicole leads a talented team and manages multiple high-end residential projects throughout the Seattle area. Her current work includes a new construction home in Newcastle, a remodel in Clyde Hill, and a renovation at Seattle’s Emerald condominium near Pike Place Market. At any given time, she balances between three and ten active projects, each requiring thoughtful leadership and creative vision.
Recently, Nicole expanded her work to include Early Career Designer Coaching, a service that evolved naturally from the many coffee meetings she shared with emerging designers seeking guidance. What began as informal mentorship revealed a deeper purpose. Through coaching, she helps designers navigate the transition from education to real-world practice, offering clarity, confidence, and a strong professional foundation during a pivotal stage of their careers.
One of the best pieces of advice Nicole has ever received is simple and enduring: if you do not know, ask lots of questions. That mindset has guided her growth, strengthened her collaborations, and shaped her leadership style.
Her accomplishments reflect both excellence and authenticity. Nicole has designed for high-profile clients and was named Kirkland Lifestyle Magazine’s Best Interior Designer in both 2022 and 2023. Her work has been featured in multiple publications, including cover stories for Portrait Magazine Seattle and Portland in 2023 and Kirkland Lifestyle Magazine in 2022 for her Chelan Lookout home. She is also especially proud of her recently completed Seattle high-rise condo at Cristalla and is currently pursuing publication for the project.
Looking ahead, Nicole’s goals are rooted in both expansion and connection. She is passionate about supporting women entrepreneurs and business owners and recently launched a Founders Club designed to foster community, collaboration, and mutual growth. At the same time, she hopes to deepen her partnerships with local builders, valuing the creative energy that comes from working closely with professionals who help bring ambitious design visions to life.
At the heart of everything she does are her clients.
“My clients inspire me every day,” Nicole shares. “Their unique stories, tastes, and dreams are at the heart of my work. I have had the privilege of transforming spaces into reflections of individual personality and lifestyle time and time again, and that is deeply fulfilling to me.”
For Nicole Hopper, design is not just about beautiful spaces. It is about confidence earned, stories honored, and a gift fully shared.
