From Cleaning Houses to Designing Houses – Jennifer Adams Exemplifies the Value of Hard Work

By Heritage | Portland, Success Stories | 0 comment | 29 August, 2016 | 0

Heritage grad Jennifer Adams is a highly successful celebrity interior designer who worked her way to the top. She is a truly inspiring individual and we are excited to share her story!

Interior Designer Jennifer Adams, CEO and Chief Creative Officer of Jennifer Adams Worldwide, Inc., is a prime example of what hard work and dedication can lead to.

Jennifer grew up in a household with very little money but she never felt limited by her circumstances. Her love for designing and improving spaces started early on in her life. She repainted her room countless times and frequently moved furniture around to get a new look. Jennifer helped her mom sew drapes, bedspreads, pillow covers and also build furniture, even their sofa! They also successfully dyed their carpet navy blue with Rit® dye and a steamer!

Her family worked hard for everything they had which is a value Jennifer carries with her today.  She began working at the age of 14 picking strawberries and working in the apparel department at Fred Meyer. Jennifer always had an entrepreneurial spirit and she created many of her own jobs including a house cleaning business. During the summers Jennifer and her sister would clean houses for a total of $50 and even advertised their services by posting flyers around town.

At 19 years old, Jennifer’s sister tragically passed away. At this time Jennifer realized that life is too short to do something you don’t love and in honor of her sister, became committed to following her dreams and being the best person she could be.

Soon after she decided to enroll at Heritage School of Interior Design to pursue her natural talent and passion for design. The staff at Heritage had no doubt that Jennifer would quickly become extremely successful and well-known. While she was still in school, a couple called Heritage looking for a designer and Jennifer accepted the job for only $300. Her clients were thrilled with the outcome which gave her confidence to keep going.

Jennifer founded her company Jennifer Adams Design Group at the young age of 23. After graduating from Heritage, her boss from her previous receptionist job at an accounting firm let her send postcards about her design services out to his list of clients. Through this she gained high-end clients and not only worked on houses, but also airplane hangars, commercial properties, resorts and country clubs.

Her business continued to grow and expand through her appearances on HGTV and The Better Show which happened after auditioning for fun in Portland. She eventually started her own line of luxury bedding in 2009 after years of researching fabrics. In 2012 she teamed up with Costco to sell her bedding on the Costco website as well as special events. She then worked with her team to design a line of furniture which was a natural extension of her brand.

And she didn’t stop there! She started forming licensing partnerships with companies that made high quality apparel, cleaning products, bathroom accessories, area rugs, pillows and poufs, scented home accessories, pet bedding and accessories, kitchen and dining textiles and more. In 2013 she started her newspaper column “Ask Jennifer Adams” and in March 2014 she published her first book Bedrooms That Inspire Rest, Relaxation and Romance and later started her YouTube channel “Inspire Yourself.”

Jennifer looks at everyday as a new opportunity and always sets new goals that will challenge her. She is truly passionate about doing whatever she can to help people love coming home and wants to continue developing solutions to make every aspect of the home amazing.
