Partnering for Success: How Two HSID Alumni Built a Design Business Together

By Heritage | Denver, Success Stories | 0 comment | 10 November, 2025 | 0

We recently had the pleasure of speaking with Kelley and Morgan, two talented HSID Denver alumni, to learn about their journey from career changers to co-founders of their own interior design firm.

From Different Paths to a Shared Passion

Kelley and Morgan both began their careers outside the interior design industry. A Colorado native, Kelley moved to San Francisco after college to work as a data analyst in software startups. “After renovating a family home in Colorado, I realized my true passion was interior design,” Kelley explains. “I decided to leave the corporate world and pursue what really excited me.”

Morgan, originally from outside Boston, started her career teaching dance and elementary school. “I’ve always loved creating, whether that was designing lesson plans or organizing spaces efficiently,” she says. “After having twins, I realized how important it is for a home to be both functional and a haven for family life.”

Finding Their Calling in Interior Design

Morgan has always loved the challenge of designing functional, beautiful spaces. “I enjoy rearranging rooms to make them practical but still visually interesting,” she says. Kelley adds, “I’m passionate about transforming ideas into physical spaces. Running a design firm allows me to combine creativity with business, which I love. For us, a home is a place where memories are made, and it should reflect each family’s individuality while functioning beautifully.”

Overcoming Challenges

Transitioning into interior design required leaving established careers and starting over, all while raising young children. “With three babies between us, launching a business was intimidating,” Kelley admits. Morgan agrees, saying, “We had to learn how to balance motherhood with the fast-paced demands of growing a design firm. It was challenging, but also incredibly rewarding.”

HSID: Preparing for the Realities of Design

At HSID Denver, Kelley and Morgan gained technical skills they use every day. “We learned everything from Revit, AutoCAD, and SketchUp to concept presentations and design documentation,” Morgan explains. Kelley adds, “More importantly, the immersive program taught us to trust our instincts, make confident choices, and deliver designs efficiently. The fast pace really prepared us for the realities of the industry.”

Current Projects and Work

This year, the duo has worked on a wide variety of projects. “We’ve tackled everything from small bathroom renovations to full-home remodels and even commercial facilities,” Morgan shares. “Each project has been a learning experience and has helped shape who we are as a company.” Kelley adds, “Right now, we’re working on a full-home remodel in Denver and a medical facility in Wyoming. These diverse projects have helped us define our niche in residential construction and finish design.”

Launching King-Quattrini Interiors

Kelley and Morgan founded King-Quattrini Interiors (KQI) in early 2025. “We realized that two brains are better than one,” Morgan says. “We bonded over our shared passion for creating beautiful, livable spaces that can keep up with the chaos of everyday life.”

“Our strengths complement each other perfectly,” Kelley adds. “Morgan brings an artistic eye that makes spaces approachable yet elevated, while I bring business acumen and a love for unique design details. Together, we create spaces that are truly one of a kind.”

Words of Wisdom

“Be scared and do it anyway,” the duo says. “Trust yourself and keep going. Every project brings new challenges, and every day of running your own business comes with a little chaos. Embracing the unknown and moving forward has been key to our growth.”

Proudest Moments

Looking back on their first year, Morgan says, “Honestly, this entire year feels like an accomplishment. We’re proud of what we’ve built together, supporting one another, learning, and celebrating every milestone.” Kelley adds, “Seeing the projects we’ve completed fills us with pride and excitement for what’s to come.”

Looking Ahead

Their goal for KQI is to become a staple in the Denver design community and grow a talented team. “We want to handle both design and construction, evolving into a complete design-build company,” Kelley explains. Morgan adds, “We also want to continue refining our craft and creating meaningful, beautiful spaces for our clients.”
