Seven Steps to Beating the Blahs

Step #1: Create the Canvas

Start with a fresh coat of paint, warm neutrals. Add an accent wall with a bold graphic wallpaper or a dark color like black or navy blue. If you have kids, try a chalkboard wall and let them create art. In the kitchen paint your island a trending color like black, navy blue or green and add a fun tile backsplash.

Step #2: Build A Base

Nothing is more boring than wall to wall cream carpeting. Area rugs warm up a space and add color and texture. Jute and woven rugs are today’s trends. In a bathroom, a new basin or vanity coupled with a new mirror is transformational.

Step #3: Reimagine & Reconfigure

Create intimacy, closeness and conversation by the way you arrange the furniture. A couple well placed poufs adds casual seating. In the kitchen, add some open shelving and accessorize with dishes and plants.

Step #4: Try Some Texture

Bring in patterns and textures with pillows and throw blankets – these can be changed seasonally. Mix patterns – carefully. Vary the size of prints and keep a cohesive color scheme to be successful. Reupholster an accent chair with a yummy fabric. In the bedroom, a new duvet cover or a textured headboard can make all the difference.

Step #5: Go Green

Houseplants add color, texture and life to any space. We love fiddle leaf figs, birds of paradise and collections of succulents.

Step #6: Let There Be Light

Update light fixtures by changing out boring ceiling mounts for hanging pendants or a modern statement chandelier. Add collections of candles for accent lighting.

Step #7: Finish With A Flourish

Make a gallery wall – collect all your art pieces and hang them together on one wall. Find an antique, art or heirloom piece that speaks to you. In the kitchen, try adding or changing out knobs and drawer pulls.
