Students will receive a Certification in Interior Custom Design upon completion and graduation of the Fundamentals of Interior Design Program. This program will meet virtually as a class twice per week. Additional activities, field visits in the student’s local area, recorded lectures and projects are required to be completed outside of the live class time. Students should expect to spend approximately 10-15 hours per week outside of class hours on activities, projects, and optional field visits. In this program, students begin to develop a competitive portfolio and expansive knowledge base which empowers them to work in the Interior Design industry. Projects include the full design and presentation of two residential spaces, including an entire home as the final project. Additional client-specific and concept-based activities are incorporated throughout the course to enforce learning and presentation skills. This program puts equal focus toward core design knowledge, design expression and business practices that together enable students to become successful industry professionals. A general overview of program topics is outlined below and subject to change. A detailed syllabus is provided upon enrollment. This is the first course and prerequisite to our Master Certification Program. Heritage School of Interior Design is licensed through the State of Oregon Department of Education.
Please note: The certificates for virtual programs at Heritage are conferred by the Oregon Higher Education Coordinating Commission. Each state may have different requirements based on their educational regulating bodies and requirements for state licensure. If you are pursuing a virtual certification through Heritage, we highly recommend checking with the state in which you intend to work as a designer to determine if the virtual certification will be recognized by the regulating body or prospective employers in that state as there may be limitations.
