The Heritage School of Interior Design Masters Program in Seattle, Washington requires completion of the following courses:

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

FUNDAMENTALS OF INTERIOR DESIGN

The Fundamentals of Interior Design Certification program provides students with the knowledge necessary to work as an independent Interior Designer or work within the Interior Design industry. Students learn about elements and principles of design, furniture history, floor planning, elevations, design styles, sustainable design, custom furnishings, selecting fabrics and materials, color schemes, window coverings, artwork, and more! They also learn about professional practices including business formations, communication styles and how to develop a business and marketing plan that will allow them to succeed in the field of Interior Design. The course ends with a client project and final exam.

Heritage School of Interior Design is licensed and accredited through the State of Oregon Department of Education as a Private Career School. Upon completion of the Fundamentals of Interior Design Program, students receive a Certificate in Interior Custom Design.

 

INTRO TO AUTOCAD & SKETCHUP

This 6-week Intro to AutoCAD & SketchUp course orients the student to the fundamentals and use of CAD programs in the field of Interior Design. By the completion of the course, the student should have a working knowledge of creating floorplans, elevations, and sheet layouts in AutoCAD, and a basic understanding of 3D modeling in SketchUp. This class is strongly recommended for any Interior Design career.

 

INTRO TO COMMERCIAL DESIGN

This dynamic ten-week course examines the unique and diverse disciplines within the progressive field of Commercial Interior Design. Learn the fundamentals and elements essential to produce and manage a successful commercial project from initial client meeting to completion. Explore innovative hands-on methods, processes and skills to design engaging interior environments that enrich spaces functionally and aesthetically.  Immerse yourself in the conceptual exploration of spaces that support programmatic and functional requirements.  Identify, research and creatively analyze elements related to performance, specifications, functionality and quality of space.

 

BUSINESS & ENTREPRENEURSHIP FUNDAMENTALS

In this 6-week course, students will create a strategic plan that is based on their unique capabilities and helps them to define and measure their goals culminating in the development and presentation of a business plan for their first year of business.

 

KITCHEN & BATH DESIGN

This 6-week Introduction to Kitchen & Bath Design course gives students an overview of the elements of kitchen and bath design through a combination of lectures and hands on activities. The lessons will cover planning and layout, cabinets, fixtures, appliances, materials, lighting and more. At the completion of the course students will have the basic knowledge to guide a client through the process of remodeling a kitchen or bathroom.

 

REVIT

This 7-week course will cover the fundamentals of Revit in a format that promotes information retention. Students will obtain a fundamental understanding of Revit Architecture as it relates to Interior Design and the skills and technical knowledge required to model, draft, and render small projects.

 

ADOBE PHOTOSHOP & ILLUSTRATOR

This 6-week course provides students with basic Photoshop and Illustrator skills that can be used to create professional visual presentations. Students will learn how to modify and transform images by changing the color, lighting, and size of photos that can be used to build their portfolio.

 

ADVANCED SKETCHUP

This 7-week course is for students who successfully completed the Introduction to AutoCAD & SketchUp Course and are looking to further advance their 3-D drafting skills with SketchUp, specifically for Kitchen & Bath Design. Over the 7 weeks of this course students will learn more advanced techniques tailored to aid in the designing and presentation of kitchens and bathrooms.

 

ADVANCED AUTOCAD

This 5-week course builds on the skills learned in the Intro to AutoCAD and SketchUp course. Students will draw advanced floorplans, elevations, lighting plans, electrical plans, and furniture plans. The final project is a drawing of the first floor of a home including, walls, windows, doors, trim work, kitchen, dining room, living room, powder room, and stairs. By the end of the course students should be proficient in AutoCAD.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Upon completion of the Masters Program courses, you will present a portfolio of your final projects from each course to the Executive Director. You will then receive the following:

  • Masters Certificate
  • Final Transcript
  • Masters of High Honors Award for a GPA of 3.5 or above
  • Letter of Recommendation from the Executive Director
  • Priority considerations for internship opportunities

Please note: The average class size for each course is 20-25 students, with the exception of AutoCAD & SketchUp, Advanced AutoCAD and Advanced SketchUp, which has a maximum of 15 students. When planning out your course schedule, please be mindful of how fast and intensive this program is. While you are in the Fundamentals of Interior Design program, it is recommended that you take no more than three supplemental courses in that same term. Plan on an average of 15+ hours of homework per week per class.
