The Heritage School of Interior Design Masters Program in Denver, Colorado requires completion of the following courses:

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

FUNDAMENTALS OF INTERIOR DESIGN

The Fundamentals of Interior Design Certification program provides students with the knowledge necessary to work as an independent Interior Designer or work within the Interior Design industry. Students learn about elements and principles of design, furniture history, floor planning, elevations, design styles, sustainable design, custom furnishings, selecting fabrics and materials, color schemes, window coverings, artwork, and more! They also learn about professional practices including business formations and communication methods that will allow them to succeed in the field of Interior Design. The course ends with a client project and final exam.

INTRO TO AUTOCAD & SKETCHUP

This 6-week intro to AutoCAD & SketchUp course orients the student to the fundamentals and use of CAD programs in the field of Interior Design. By the completion of the course, the student should have a working knowledge of creating floor plans, elevations, and sheet layouts in AutoCAD, and a basic understanding of 3D modeling Sketchup. This class is strongly recommended for any Interior Design career.

KITCHEN & BATH DESIGN

This 6-week introduction to Kitchen & Bath Design will provide students with an overview of the elements of kitchen and bath design through a combination of lectures and hands on activities. The lessons will cover planning and layout, cabinets, fixtures, appliances, materials and lighting. At the completion of the course students will have the basic knowledge to guide a client through the process of remodeling a kitchen or bathroom.

ADOBE INDESIGN, ILLUSTRATOR & PHOTOSHOP

This 6-week course will provide students with basic InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop skills that can be used to create professional visual presentations. Students will learn how to create detailed presentation boards with graphics, photos of rooms, floor plans and examples of materials that will help them professionally convey their design ideas to clients.  They will also learn how to modify and transform images by changing the color, lighting, and size of photos that can be used to build their portfolio.

REVIT

This 6-week course will cover the fundamentals of Revit in a format that promotes information retention. Students will obtain a fundamental understanding of Revit Architecture as it relates to Interior Design and the skills and technical knowledge required to model, draft, and render small projects.

COMMERCIAL DESIGN

This 10-week course will introduce students to commercial interior design theory, concepts and application, preparing them with the knowledge and skills required to work on commercial design projects. They will learn building codes, proper space planning and materials for commercial spaces.

ADVANCED AUTOCAD

This 6-week course builds on the skills learned in the Intro to AutoCAD and SketchUp course. Students will learn to draw advanced floor plans, elevations, lighting plans, electrical plans, and furniture plans. By the end of the course students should be proficient using AutoCAD.

ADVANCED SKETCHUP

This 7-week course is for students who successfully completed the Introduction AutoCAD & SketchUp Course and are looking to further advance their 3-D drafting skills with SketchUp. Students will learn more advanced techniques tailored to aid in the design and presentation of client projects.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Upon completion of the Masters Program courses, you will present a portfolio of your final projects from each course to the Executive Director. You will then receive the following:

  • Masters Certificate
  • Final Transcript
  • Masters of High Honors Award for a GPA of 3.5 or above
  • Letter of Recommendation from the Executive Director
  • Priority considerations for internship opportunities

Please note: The average class size for each course is 18 students, with the exception of AutoCAD & SketchUp, Advanced AutoCAD and Advanced SketchUp, which has a maximum of 12 students. When planning out your course schedule, please be mindful of how fast and intensive this program is. While you are in the Fundamentals of Interior Design program, it is recommended that you take no more than three supplemental courses in that same term.
