Director ProfileJan Springer began her interior decorating career in 1989. She was hired and trained by a national design company based in Georgia. Jan has trained in Los Angeles, Atlanta, San Francisco, Seattle, and continues her training through local classes and seminars. She has received national and regional recognition. Jan was an associate member of NWSID for 12 years until 2007. She is now a member of (IDS) Interior Design Society and is a registered instructor with the State Board of Education in Salem. She currently serves as an advisory board member for Clackamas County Sabin Career Center developing curriculum for their high school design classes. In addition, Jan instructed classes in Design Basics through PCC (Portland Community College) for seven semesters. In 1994 she was selected to design a model show home in the "Mark Stewart Designer Showcase of Homes". Jan was lead designer for Cornerstone Homes in July 1996 to design and furnish a home in the "Northwest Natural Gas Show of Homes". In August 2001 she accessorized a “Street of Dreams Home”and in November was part of the design team that decorated the Pittock Mansion at Christmas. She has been a featured speaker at the “Women’s Show at the Convention Center and has served as a guest speaker for Paul Schatz “Inspiration Day” on three occasions. Most recently she was featured in television ads for "Real Estate Today" sharing design tips for home owners. She and her graduate team received the 1st place award for Interior Decorating in the “2003” Street of New Beginnings,” as well as “Best of Show” award. She has appeared in several feature articles in Oregon Home Magazine. Her background includes thirty years of sales, training and management. In 1982 Jan was Director of Admissions for Bassist College of Design. She has been training interior decorators since 1993. In 1996 she applied to the Board of Education to open Heritage School of Interior Design. Jan has been described as a "teacher's teacher". Her graduates talk of her talent, inspiration, support and her sense of humor. Her classes are fun! Jan has been a professional speaker for over twenty years and is the founder and past president of Sources, a professional networking group. She also works with design instructors in the local high schools and is involved with their "Job Shadow" program. The "Job Shadow" program introduces high school students to careers in interior design. Her community service includes advocacy for the mentally retarded and "Special Olympics" as well as Habitat For Humanity. She is married, has two children and six grandchildren. Jan was honored in 1994 as a candidate for "Mother of the Year" and was honored at the State Capitol by Governor Barbara Roberts. Her travels abroad to England, France, Israel, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Caribbean and Mexico have broadened her understanding of the historical influences that remain in today's interpretations of home furnishings. "I love working with clients, but I have a gift for teaching. There is no greater pleasure than being part of someone else's success. I live my work... design is my passion, and I feel fortunate to be able to share it with students. What could be better than doing something that you truly love!" Jan and her home has recently been featured on 2 segmentst of "Better", a television program that airs throughout the United States.
