10 Week Commercial Design Program | Portland

COURSE OVERVIEW

This course provides students with an overall understanding of working as an interior designer on a commercial project. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to create and better understand a commercial floorplan, be knowledgable about building codes for interior designers, proper space planning and materials for commercial spaces.

For the final project, students will use their creativity along with their new skills to design a commercial space.

*The Certification Course is required as a prerequisite for this course

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Successful completion of this course is based on satisfactorily meeting the following general learning objectives, evidenced by passing quiz/exam scores and incorporation into weekly/term assignments and final project presentation.

  • Verbalize knowledge of commercial interior codes and/or cite proper resources for the codes
  • Demonstrate understanding and apply design principles and elements to commercial design.
  • Demonstrate understanding of products, furniture & materials by making appropriate selections for commercial interior design.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the design process by implementing it in final project.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and collaboration with classmates and projectstakeholders to provide desired outcome during final design project.
